Website Cookie Policy

We want to be transparent about the use of your personal data.

This cookie policy applies to our use of any and all data that is automatically collected by us in relation to your use of our website www.voicesthatcount.net, and is based on the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

We use only strictly necessary and functional cookies. We do not use cookies for analytics profiling, advertising or marketing, and we do not track you across other websites. Our website is hosted by IONOS SE, a European hosting provider with data centres in the EU.

1. Introduction

1.1 This cookie policy (“Cookie Policy”) is part of the Voices That Count’s Website Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) for the use of data collected through our Website www.voicesthatcount.net (“Website”) which we, Voices That Count CV, registered under Belgian law, company number 0763.955.172 (“we”, “us”, “our”) make available to you (“you”, “your”). Capitalised terms have the meanings in the Conditions, unless they are defined in this policy.

1.2 Unless we say otherwise in this policy, we decide the purposes and means of processing of personal data that is collected about you when you use the Website. We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy in relation to the Website. We have legal obligations to do this as the ‘controller‘ of your personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (‘GDPR’).

1.3 This Cookie Policy explains which cookies and similar technologies are used, the purposes for which they are used, the legal basis for that use, and the organisations to which your data may be disclosed.

1.4 Because we place only strictly necessary and functional cookies, we do not ask for your consent to place them. We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a secure and functioning Website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), read together with Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, which exempts strictly necessary storage from the consent requirement. You can still refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings, though parts of the Website may then not work as intended.

2. Which cookies do we use?

Below is a description and list of the cookies used on our Website. We have tried to ensure this is complete and up to date, but if you think we have missed a cookie or there is any discrepancy, please let us know at contact@voicesthatcount.net.

2.1 Cookies placed for all visitors

Cookie Name Placed by Purpose Duration Type
pll_language Polylang (our translation plugin) Remembers whether you are browsing the English or Dutch version of the Website, so your language choice is kept as you move between pages 1 year Functional
privacy_embeds Avada (our website theme) Records that you have dismissed the cookie notice, so it is not shown to you again on every page 30 days Functional

2.2 Cookies and similar technologies placed by our form protection

Our contact form and our newsletter sign-up form are protected against automated spam and abuse by Cloudflare Turnstile, a service provided by Cloudflare, Inc. Because our newsletter sign-up form appears in the footer of every page, Turnstile loads on every page of the Website.

Turnstile checks whether a visitor is a human rather than a bot. To do this it receives your IP address and information about your browser, and it may store information in your browser for the duration of the check. Turnstile does not use this information to build an advertising profile of you and does not track you across other websites.

We use Turnstile because without it our forms are filled automatically by spam bots to the point of being unusable. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the security and availability of the Website and its forms (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Cloudflare, Inc. is headquartered in the United States. Data transferred to Cloudflare is covered by the Standard Contractual Clauses in Cloudflare’s Data Processing Addendum, and Cloudflare is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Cloudflare’s privacy policy is available at www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.

2.3 Cookies for logged-in website editors only

The following cookies are placed by WordPress, the content management system that runs our Website, and only for members of the Voices That Count team who log in to manage the site. They are never placed for ordinary visitors.

Cookie Name Purpose Duration Type
wordpress_logged_in_* Identifies a logged-in WordPress user Session* Essential
wp-settings-{uid} Stores that editor’s preferences for the WordPress admin interface 1 year Essential
wp-settings-time-{uid} Stores when those preferences were last updated 1 year Essential
wordpress_test_cookie Checks whether cookies are enabled in the browser before logging in Session* Essential

* Session cookies are erased when you close your browser. They typically store no more than a session identifier, which does not by itself identify you personally.

3. What we do not use

To be explicit, our Website does not use:

  • advertising, marketing or retargeting cookies;
  • social media tracking pixels;
  • Google Analytics, Google Fonts, Google Maps, or any other Google service;
  • embedded YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram or Facebook content;
  • cross-site tracking of any kind.

We measure how our Website is used with Independent Analytics, a plugin that runs on our own server and stores its data in our own database at IONOS. It records page views and link clicks in aggregate. It does not set any cookies, does not use any similar technology to identify you, and no data leaves our hosting environment.

4. When may we disclose the data collected via cookies?

We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not disclose it for anyone else’s marketing purposes.

The only third party that receives data automatically as a result of your visit is Cloudflare, in its role as our form-security provider, as described in Section 2.2. Our hosting provider IONOS SE processes server logs on our behalf as our data processor.

5. How to control or delete cookies

You can delete cookies already stored on your device and prevent new ones from being set through your browser settings, usually found under “Options”, “Preferences” or “Privacy”. Please note that deleting or blocking our cookies may mean the Website no longer remembers your language choice, and that the cookie notice reappears on every visit.

6. Changes to our cookie policy

The last revision of this cookie policy dates from 03.09.2026.

We may amend this Cookie Policy. Any changes we make will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you via the Website.
